Concordia University Irvine - Opening

Greetings from Orange County, California!

In this tumultuous time for higher education in the midst of the disruptions of the pandemic, we are praying that you will be finding the peace that can come only from our faith (Lamentations 3:22-23).

We intend to initiate our first engineering program/curriculum at Concordia in the Fall of 2021. We are doing so in order to serve two constituencies:

  • Local industry. Orange County is one of the leading engineering employment regions in the world.

  • Our students. More and more, students are seeking out STEM education.

We are looking for a department chair/team leader who would make it his/her life’s work to start and build an outstanding new engineering program in an explicitly Christian environment. Some of the capacities we are seeking in such a person:

  • The desire to create; to start something. High energy.

  • Exemplary Christian lifestyle. Active participation in a local congregation of your choice. Willingness to guide students spiritually, and not just academically.

  • Willingness to improvise with (initially) limited facilities and finances.

  • The strong desire to hire and build a fantastic team of teachers.

  • Responsiveness to the needs of local industry.

  • Active participation in the Christian Engineering Society (CES), and the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network (KEEN).

If you are sensing a calling to discuss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, please contact me or Dean of Arts and Sciences Terry Olson (, 949.514.5323), or the founding chair of our science departments, John Kenney ( ).

If this is not for you, please let us know of any candidates whom you feel are up to this challenge. Compensation is adjusted for California cost of living.

Please pray about this opportunity!
